Maria Schirmer is a theatre artist, writer and arts educator. She has received a Gallatin Global Human Rights Fellowship with the Jana Sanskriti Center for Theatre of the Oppressed in Kolkata, India and was recently an artist in residence at the Women’s International Study Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Currently she is a member of the movement installation ON DISPLAY with Heidi Latsky Dance, which has been performed at Lincoln Center, the Whitney Museum, the United Nations and more. As well as teaching with Community Word Project, she is a teaching artist with Opening Act and spent ten years as a curator and program assistant at the Hemispheric Institute of Performance and Politics.
