Katie Rainey joined Community-Word Project in the fall of 2013 as a trainee in the Teaching Artist Project (TAP). She is currently a CWP Teaching Artist and Director of the Teaching Artist Project. Katie received her BFA in film editing from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, BA in English from University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and an MFA in writing from Sarah Lawrence College. She has taught poetry, fiction, theatre, photography, English as a second language and filmmaking in Arkansas, North Carolina, New York, Belgium and Rwanda. She is the 2017 Winner of the Bechtel Prize at Teachers & Writers Magazine, the 2017 Lazuli Literary Group Writing Contest, the 2018 Montana Award for Fiction from Whitefish Review, and her work has appeared or is forthcoming in The Collagist, 3AM Magazine, Atticus Review, Fiction Southeast,and more. Katie also serves on the NYC Arts in Education Roundtable Teaching Artist Affairs Committee, and is a part of the 2018 New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) Emerging Leaders Boot Camp. She co-hosts the Animal Riot Reading Series, is the Co-Founder & Editor-in-Chief of Animal Riot Press, and lives in Harlem with the love of her life, a pup named Rosetta.
