MY VOICE CAN KNOCK DOWN A MOUNTAIN
AND MAKE CLOUDS RAIN
MY VOICE ECHOES FROM WALLS
AND MAKES CHANGE HAPPEN IN MY SCHOOL

What a powerful and courageous residency we had with students at P.S. 676 in Red Hook. We are so proud of the work our students did as individuals and in collaboration with their classmates.

They wrote about their dreams. They learned Kpanlogo and wrote ode poems about their dreams. They choreographed, rehearsed and performed a collaborative ode poem to a beat. They studied the lyrics and video from K’naan and Black Eyed Peas to inspire a music video project. They wrote lyrics, created a beat, and starred in music videos.

Students learned how to listen to each other better. They worked on teamwork skills. They developed strong performance skills. They collaborated. They reflected on community. They took a field trip to New Victory Theatre in Times Square. They saw RHAW, a dance show that inspired their music videos. They met guest artists to facilitate pre and post show workshops around RHAW.

Thanks to the classroom teachers, who are our best collaborators, for sharing your time and energy with us. We send our deepest gratitude to the office staff, Ms. Tammy and Ms. Green, who helped with our field trips, printing, and provided moral support. You are the best. Thank you to the custodial staff for opening all the doors!

Lastly, many thanks to Ms. Miller and Ms. Brown who always made it work!  We’re so grateful to you for your can-do spirit and for helping support this special residency.
